3x3 Ice Hockey

3x3 Ice hockey is a modified version of ice hockey, played on half rink size with only three players plus a goaltender per team.

3-on-3 tournaments are played cross-ice, enabling two games to be played simultaneously, one at each end of the rink. The format involves no stoppages for goals, and a simultaneous clock for both matches.

Most regular ice hockey rules apply, though body-checking is not allowed. There is also no icing or offside. If the game is tied after regular time, there is a penalty-shot shootout to decide the winner.

The sport made its international debut at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games, and there are hopes for its inclusion at future events.

The Benefits of 3-on-3 Hockey

3-on-3 is a "skills" based game that is best described as "organized pond hockey" where players can develop their skills in a spring/summer league with an emphasis on fun over winning. The benefits of 3-on-3 hockey stretches far beyond the less competitive atmosphere it creates as it is seen as one of the best ways for a player to develop their overall game: 토토

With a smaller numbers of players present on the ice there is an increased space available for the player to work within. The increased space creates the need to move with the puck more, allowing players to developed better footwork and puck control

3-on-3 blurs the distinction between offensive and defensive players creating a need for all players on the ice to create both an offensive presence in the opposing team’s zone as well as a defensive presence in their own

3-on-3 style of play promotes two-way player development resulting in offensive players developing defensive skills while defensive players develop more puck confidence and offensive tactics

Goalies are always in the play resulting in more shots on net in addition to more movement which helps with conditioning, awareness and positioning

How long is each game?

A game consists of three 16-minute periods. As such, one game lasts 48 minutes and thus, 48 one-minute shifts are played in each game.

The intermissions between the periods is two minutes. Teams do not change sides for the second and third period.
